We've
had many requests to open this section of The Trough.
When it comes to eating good, you should pair it up with
drinking good too. They go hand in hand. Without one,
you really don't have much of a party either.
When it comes to
libations, we are talking alcoholic beverages here. Before we go
into the types that we'll be covering, we'd like to stress the
importance of a) moderation and b) even if moderation is observed,
operating a motor vehicle is a no-no. There is also much talk about
the beneficial effects of alcohol as far as cardiovascular health
goes. The studies show that alcohol in MODERATION is beneficial in
this area. What's really interesting is that the alcohol intake has
to be consistent and not intermittent. In other words, alcohol
intake in MODERATION should be consumed on a DAILY basis in order to
have full cardiovascular benefit. What is MODERATION? According to
the studies, one 12 ounce beer, one 6 oz glass of wine or one mixed
drink.
We're not saying
you can't party every once in awhile. By all means, if you can
handle it, do so every once in awhile. Be mindful of the negative
effects of alcohol, especially when consumed in quantities greater
than we've outlined for extended periods of time.
At the Libation
Station we will be featuring not only alcoholic beverages, but the
tools of the trade necessary to prepare some of the drinks we have
in our recipe file. Wavy Dave our resident expert on beer delivery
systems will also assist us in putting together a bar. All of this
will be covered in the "essentials" section.
Obviously, the
beverage of choice for most Hogs is beer. Beer is a lot more
sophisticated than people give it credit for. In fact, it can be
more sophisticated than wine! We'll go over some of the best beers
we've tasted over the years.
Wine is also
something we've grown to love. We'll share that passion with you as
well, especially how wine pairs up with some of our grilling and
gourmet recipes.
We'll also cover
the classic concoctions that are essential to get parties started
right. Margaritas, Manhattans and Martinis are just some of the ways
to loosen up your guests at a party.
Finally, we'd also
like to acknowledge some websites that do a much better job than we
could ever hope to accomplish in our links section. Beer and Wine
sites especially are covered in loving detail on the web. We'd like
to share some of the best with you.
So sit back and
relax as our newest feature evolves into a permanent fixture here at
Hangin With The Hogs. |
