South Coast Casino Room 1421 posted 01/03/06
Since we had been offered a RFB comp quite a few months back and
since they were constantly changing the official date that rooms
would be available, we decided to hold off on staying there until Dec
26-27.  We were given room 1421, a non-smoking double queen since no
non smoking king rooms were available.  There are 2 banks of
elevators, one bank of 6 serving floors below 14, and one bank of 6
serving 14 and higher.  Odd numbered rooms face LVB and even numbers
face I-15.  Only the suites on the north end of each floor have a
strip view, and none of those have much of that, so don't bother
asking.

1421 is a standard Coast room, with a twist.  No more bathrooms on
the outside wall, hence no more opening window to the outside world.
In fact, the windows are completely sealed (and filthy to boot, from
all the rain/construction dust).  When you enter, there is a small
vestibule with the bathroom on one side.  The bath is slightly larger
than at the other Coast properties, with a granite countertop/makeup
area and a single sink.  Through a doorway one enters the
toilet/shower area.  Nothing special here, other than a nice tile
surround around the very standard (and very tiny) shower over bath.
Amenities are generic.  Just outside the bath is a double door closet
with a full sized ironing board and iron.  Into the room itself, one
finds a wall mounted 42" LG plasma TV (feeding only std resolution
analog local channels and a smattering of cable channels).  The TV is
also used for the INet access at $12.95 per day, or one can opt for
true high speed (108mb) wired net access, using one's own laptop at
$11.95 per day at the small writing desk, which also offers a 2 line
telephone. Double rooms have an easy chair and a small table with 2
wood chairs, where king rooms have a small loveseat and the
table/chair combo.  The beds offer a pillow top mattress, better
quality linens than in the past (I'd guess 250 thread count sheets)
and a clock radio with an MP-3 in port.  There is a nightstand with
another 2 line phone by the bedside.  Below the TV is a 6 drawer
armoire/chest.  Generic paintings adorn the walls.

The room was extremely quiet and all rooms are a short walk from the
elevator bank.  The elevators are guest access only and everyone is
screened by a 24/7 security guard.

Currently, rooms are running about $79 per night weekdays and $129
per night weekends, but the offers are already starting to fly hot
and heavy.  It's nothing special, but very nice for the money as long
as you aren't expecting luxury. Index

South Coast Casino Room 2215 posted 6/18/06

Originally when I booked I spoke with Bobby Long and was
given a casino rate of $59 per night. Later I received an email special of
$59 per night so I'm thinking why not book that and have no expectation for
gambling. I emailed the hotel and was put in contact with Licette Rosa,
executive casino host. I explained the situation and asked if I could
provide a lower casino rate. She said that $59 was the lowest rate at the
time but she would look at my play from the Orleans. She emailed back and to
my surprise she comped two nights and two nights at casino rate which ended
up being $49 per night.

If anyone has stayed at Orleans you know how nice the
rooms are there and the SouthCoast doesn't disappoint either. Unlike
Orleans, the bathroom is just inside the door so that means no window to
open in the shower but also, you don't have to hang your clothes in the
bathroom like you do at Orleans, there's a closet just opposite the door to
the bathroom and the vanity is very large although it only contains one
sink. The water pressure in the shower was mediocre but I think the fact
that the shower head was similar to one of those big round stainless steel
ones (Cascadia?) may have had something to do with it. The goodies in the
bathroom consisted of a bar of oatmeal soap for the shower, shampoo,
conditioner, lotion, another small round bar of soap for the sink with a
plastic soap holder(which I thought was odd and out of place), and a coffee
maker round out the vanity along with a hair dryer on the wall.

The closet was large and contained the iron and board but alas no safe, and
automatic lights in the closet would have been nice too. The room itself was
very spacious with a desk with the high speed internet connection, King size
bed with night stands on both sides, love seat and coffee table and a small
round table with two chairs. The windows ran just short of the entire width
of the room with recessed lights in the box in front of the window that I
assume was there to hide a structural beam. There was also a dresser
opposite the foot of the bed with the 42 inch LG plasma TV hung on the wall
above it. Sounds like a lot of stuff in the room, but that's how big these
rooms are as we never felt like the room was over crowded. I almost forgot,
the bed was extremely comfortable and I wish I would have looked to see what
the mattress was as I came home and am waking up with a stiff back,
something that didn't happen on the trip. Index
