Green Valley Ranch Suite
5030 posted 7/8/03
Of course, since the property only has 4
floors of rooms, it doesn't really matter much which room you get, as they
are all pretty much the same (although the Presidential suite, which I
finally got a chance to check out, is a KILLER). Our host did ask if
it was OK to place us in a 'mountain view' room, as they were oversold on
'strip view' rooms (which they now charge paying guests $20 a day extra
for). Since we've been in the "strip view' rooms before (and it
ain't much of a "strip view"), I was happy to get the goodwill
by passing. Actual check in took all of 2 minutes. Say hello
to the desk clerk and get the room keycards and honor bar key.
Suite 5030 faces SSW looking out at all the housing developments alongside
St Rose pky (Hy146). Like all the standard suites at GVR, it's about
450 sq ft in size, with a large bathroom just off the entryway.
Double doors with a mirror on each lead to the main bathroom area, with
the glass shower stall and the oversize Kohler cast iron steeping tub (no
Jacuzzi). A large marble vanity with sink, lighted make-up mirror
and hair dryer are also in the main room. Bath amenities are from
Gilchrist & Soames and include french milled soap, oatmeal soap,
seafoam soap, shampoo, conditioner, mineral bath, and hand and body
lotion. Towels are Egyptian cotton, but not very soft or fluffy.
Shower caps and shoe clothes are also included (although housekeeping will
polish your shoes overnight at no cost). The toilet is in a separate
room and has its own phone (with a data port, for those inclined to
'modem' while occupied).
Between the bathroom and main bedroom is a marble topped table with the
honor bar snack basket and the coffee maker (yes Cliffy, they still have a
coffee maker in the room). Coffee is provided at no charge in both
regular and decaf and there are REAL heavy china coffee cups.
2 small bottles of water are also included for guests, as are 2 large
bottles of water (at additional charge). 'HB' snacks are normal room
service prices (expensive), but very good quality and now even include a
disposable camera. A nice print hangs on the facing wall. The
bedroom has a king sized bed, with nightstands on each side, with a 2 line
phone on one and a CD/clock radio on the other. A leather padded
headboard complements the down filled duvet bedspread, with 3 smaller
prints on the wall behind. The mattress is hotel firm, but comfy.
The double sliding door closet offers standard wood hangers, plus 2 'foo-foo'
hangers and 2 Egyptian cotton GVR logo guest robes. A full size
ironing board and iron are also in the closet, as is a good sized
electronic safe. There is a nice padded arm chair and ottoman with a
small table and reading lamp next to the very large windows (with both
lined blackout drapes and curtains). A writing desk and chair has
another 2 line telephone (with data port), phone calls are $1.00 each with
no 'time' limitation and there is a separate high speed Internet
connection (at $10.00 per day) to plug directly into any network card
(Windows or Mac). NO software required. The 27" TV is in
a rather large Armoire on a pull out swivel and has a WebTV type keyboard
attached for those who don't bring their own laptop at $5.99 per 2 hour
time block. Located below the TV is the HB refrigerator (nice choice
of goodies), and additional drawers. Housekeeping does turndown
service (after 6PM) and free daily newspapers are provided (USA Today or
the RJ during the week, the RJ on weekends). The concierge can
provide arrangements for babysitting, car rentals, courier service, fax,
floral and golf reservations. The full service SPA offers all kinds
of Spa treatments. There is a full room service menu (at comparable
room service prices), with service fee ($3.00) and tip (18%) automatically
added. Index
