Room 6237 posted 6/10/02
Smoking: Yes
Rate:
$29
Agency: An internet offer from Casino City
Amenities: We stayed in the Monaco Tower which is new. The bed
was very comfortable and we paid only $29 a night on the
weekend. There was a safe in the room and it was clean and fresh
despite being a smoking room. Shampoo and lotion in the bathroom. The
Monaco is close to the self park for quick getaways to other
casinos. View: 20th
floor overlooking the South Strip.
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other: There is some cheap grub in the casino in the nickel slot
area. Staff is friendly. Pool is basic and and draws all types.
No high rollers here whatsoever. Feels like 1975 in here and I
don't mean it in a bad way. If you stay here, have a car
available.. Index

I
canceled my direct reservations with Riviera a few days before
my departure to save a bundle on the room rate.
It is well posted the Riviera's check-in lines are long,
long, long and I can attest to this.
I found out if you book directly with Riviera and you
have the exact credit card used for the deposit you can use the
self serve kiosk machines which will shorten check in.
The money saved was worth the wait.
They had no problems combing the two reservations into
one.
The
Monaco tower is way back in the Casino behind the pool.
You can walk through the pool or through a long maze of
shops to reach the elevators.
Of all the towers it is the longest walk.
This tower has the largest bank of elevators in the
Riviera and for a weekend the waits were short compared to other
casinos. The room
was two floors below the top penthouse suits and the view was a
nondescript assortment of businesses, a small casino, and urban
sprawl. I'd suggest
the other side of the tower if you want a view of the pool area.
A
family was stuffed into a room three doors down from me, and
they were playing Mexican music on a boom box, kids were
screaming, and in general making a huge racket.
I was nervous with all the noise in the hall but once I
closed my door I heard nothing.
Very good hotel construction in regards to noise.
The
best thing about the room was its size.
They called it a standard room but were larger than some
suites in Vegas. Standard
bathroom on your left as you walk in and I believe it was
recently remolded. Tub,
shower, single sink, hairdryer.
Open closet outside the bathroom with luggage rack and
wall safe. They
charge $3 a day to use the safe, but their under advertised
safety deposit boxes are free.
Use the safety deposit boxes especially since they are
under securities scrutiny 24 hours/day.
The
amenities were older, very good quality but somewhat worn on the
edges, and most importantly clean.
Filling the oversized room was a large
armoire which contained the TV and reasonable clothes
storage, a king size bed, one large round table with three
chairs, one small rectangular table with chair by the window for
the phone, a full size couch, and nightstands on each side of
the bed. The bed
was odd in that it could be raised buy large hydraulic cylinders
into an open box mounted on the wall.
They mechanical parts/springs were still there but the
electronics were removed. It
was not a conventional bed and all along the bottom was a heavy
gold band, and unfortunately was hidden by the bedcover.
Needless to say I banged my toe on that immovable object
more than once. I
don't know what they used to do in the room with the bed folded
up expect play cards on the large round table?
Stay
away from the Riviera cafe.
Service was slow and when the waitress brought the
breakfasts they were stone cold.
Took another 10 minutes to get our waitress back to the
table. Waited
another 15 minutes for them to fix the error, and then we just
cut our losses and left. It
looked like many others were unhappy with the food/service. Index

Room: 5919 and 5924 Monaco
Tower posted 10/7/03
Day: Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Saturday
Dates: October 25, 2003 through November 1, 2003
Rate:
$86.00 per night
Agency: Travel Agent, package deal with airfare and room
Amenities: Very basic. King bed, armoire with TV and 3
drawers, 2 nightstands, small table w/2 chairs by window.
Average size bathroom with tub/shower combination, hairdryer,
and shampoo, conditioner and bar soap. Safe in closet was $3.00
per day if used.
View: The view from 5919 was of a parking garage and the Las
Vegas Hilton. Could see the Stratosphere if you leaned.
The view from 5924 was much better. Pool area, strip, and
mountains in the distance.
Other: The room was an average hotel room. The staff was
very pleasant. Check in was fairly quick, the rooms were
not cleaned the morning we got there, but they gave us the keys
and let us leave our luggage in the room and we just came back a
couple of hours later. The location is a bit out of the
way, but the hotel is not bad. Index

Room: 5316 Monaco
Tower posted 6/9/05
The backgammon tournament I attend is in the
penthouse of this tower, so this is a very convenient room for
me. The room was clean, but seemed to be missing one piece of
furniture, felt a bit empty. Single bathroom without separate
vanity, but the marble shelf above the countertop is nice.
Standard shampoo, conditioner, lotion, no shoe buffer or shower
cap. New soap came every day. King bed was just fine, and the
brought me extra hangers without a problem. The elevators are
very fast in this 22 story tower, never a wait. A great view of
the strip looking towards the Wynn, I think if you get an even
number you'll see the strip. At check-in go ahead and use the
computer kiosk, but then tell the clerk it isn't listing what
you want and ask for the specific thing you're after, (i.e.
Monaco, King, no-smoking, facing the pool). No $20 trick
required. The signs say 4:00PM check-in, but you can
usually get your room after 11AM (at least on a Wednesday).
Also convenient to the buffet, just a bit of a walk to the
casino.
The casino is standard with low limits and tons
of 5c and 1c slots, but every dealer is funny looking, it must
be on the job application. Most have a good personality,
however. I get comped a free breakfast buffet every day with 90
minutes of $10-$15 blackjack.
Decent place to stay, but the dining options are limited. Their
Kristofer's Steak House is excellent, but the buffet is really
boring and has a poor selection, (I use it just for breakfast; a
big omelet is the only really good item). Walk to the Peppermill
next door (very good), or maybe the Tony Roma's in the Stardust
(usually decent).
Good pool and they open it at 9AM for lap swimming, wish that
was earlier.
It even has a real deep end!, (no diving boards, of course).
Always get a Monaco or Monte Carlo tower room. The other
'towers' are older and can be run-down.
