Rio Room 29013

Immediately to the right is a kitchenette area with a coffee maker, refrigerator and drawers on the right and a nook for your suitcase on the left. Past that on the right is a vanity with lighted make up mirror, hair dryer, small stool and sink. ON the other side a mirrored closet with an iron and ironing board and safe. At the end of that "hallway" is the bathroom with a tub/shower combination, small sink area, and toilet. ( photos of our room from a previous stay can be found at http://www.travel2vegas.com/noind/rio.html )
In front of you the room opens up to the 5 panels of floor to ceiling
windows, the L- shaped couch, coffee table, tv stand, king sized bed,
2 nightstands and a small table with two chairs, a phone with a data
port.

I rushed straight to the window to throw back the heavy drapes and
reveal a view of the mountains to the north west of the strip, Palace
Station, Downtown, I-15 and the strip from Stratosphere to Venetian,
Harrah's and Caesars parking garage as well as the pool area and high roller suite area below us. It's really a big change from our little
room at Main Street Station. Index

Rio Room 17009

We had a great view of the strip from Bellagio to Downtown from our room #17009 at the Rio.  If you were further down the hall, you'd have a view of more of the central -> southern strip through.  Pictures are here: http://www.travel2vegas.com/noind/rio.html Index

Rio Room 1448

It is a handicapped room, this seems to mean a slightly larger entranceway, more (empty) space in the bathroom, lots of hold bars in the shower (but, oh joy, a window from shower to living room) and an otherwise standard Rio room.  Large L-couch, coffee table, mini-fridge, big bed, marble sink/vanity with a stool, mini-safe, coffee maker (which no wheelchair bound person would ever be able to reach), side table, and two chairs. The TV was the standard 20 inch junior model, but could be swiveled for easy viewing, wherever you sat.  The view looked out over the parking garage, and the mountains in the distance.  Nothing on the strip was visible.  The rollaway bed was kind of comfortable, but the couch ultimately proved better to sleep on. Index

Rio Room:      33028
Recommend: Yes
Amenities: Large room with kingsize bed that withstood the roadtest.  Bathroom provided nothing special.  Roomsafe provided, fridge, 3 minute walk down hall and elevator to casino.  Ice machines/vending by elevators.  Clean, extra pillows. iron, hairdryer.

View: Excellent view of south strip, Caesars to Mandalay Bay.  Arranged for later checkout (2pm) which is important when you don't stop gambling until 6am.

Visited Monday Dec 11-Wednesday Dec 13.  Great staff, friendly dealers, courteous maids and no wait at restaurants.  Buffet was even acceptable.

Rio Room 14014

We checked in at around 10:30. I asked the girl at the counter if there were rooms with a view of the strip available. She said it would be $45 a night extra. This is when I was going to try the $20 trick but I chickened out. Now here's where I'm confused. We were given room 14014 in the new tower. As soon as you walk into the room you're struck by the ceiling to floor windows. The view was absolutely gorgeous. The room faced south and offered a great view of the Strip. I figure that the girl behind the counter didn't want to come right out and say that we could have a room with a view because there were quite a few people on line behind us. I don't know if we were given an upgrade or not. Whatever the reason, I really thought it was great that she made it happen. I've always known that Rio rates high but compared to the other places I've stayed ( Luxor, Treasure Island, Bally's, Stardust and Excalibur) Rio stands head and shoulders over them. The room was huge. The bathroom/sink area is nicely setup. The sink counter is more than big enough to suit up to 4 peoples needs. The fridge and couch were a nice touch too. Index

Amenities: Room safe, mini fridge, 2 phones, clock, large couch which was used to sleep 6 ft friend.  19" color tv.  Complimentary coffee. View: Great view of pool area.  Should have brought binoculars.  Nice view of north strip.

Rio Room: 1680 posted 7/5/01
Day:             Sunday Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday
Rate:            $90
Agency: Travelscape web site http://www.travelscape.com

Amenities: Floor to ceiling windows, L-shaped couch, glass topped coffee table, king size bed, only one phone, clock radio, table + 2 chairs.  Tastefully and subtlety decorated.  Tiny 19" TV, limited channels, but channel 16 I think was "VCR channel" which made it easy for me to connect my new digital camera and preview my pics.  They were in process of replacing TVs with new 32" models on my floor.  Refrigerator, in-room safe (free), coffee maker, vanity with lighted mirror.  Full bath.

View: Ipanema Tower (original, lower tower.  Mountain view, overlooked Gold Coast and the new hotel tower being built across Valley View.  Inquired about strip view at checkin, $40/night extra.  If had to do over again, would have stuck with my original direct booking which had me in strip view at $20/night extra versus my Travelscape reservation.

Other: Pretty good walk to elevators and ice machine, perhaps 200 feet.  Rooms quiet!, never heard neighbors.  Some rowdy looking frat types further down hall on weekend.  Gorgeous views from Voodoo Cafe and Lounge.  Checked my luggage in Philly through to Rio on National Airlines, they somehow lost my luggage for about 8 hours.  Valet parking very efficient. Smoking: No
Day:             Thursday Friday Saturday
Rate:            $79-comped by hotel
Recommend:       Yes
Booked: Through hotel

Amenities: Mini bar, mini fridge, free coffee, 27inch TV, room safe, separate dressing area. View: Not a great view-only 15 floors up. Other: First time I stayed in this tower as I usually request a room in the newer Masquerade tower.  However the room was nice and still very up to date-only 5 yrs old.  I liked bathroom layour better and marble (??) floor.  A/C could have been a little cooler, i like it real cold.  Short walk to elevators and down to Casino, quiet room, and good maid service.  Rio is getting tighter with their comps and may want to explore remodel at Gold Coast hotel a little more. Agency: I booked via their direct phone reservation line.  Booked the night of my arrival (unexpected stay in LV that night). Amenities: Very large television in the process of being upgraded to include internet access and more channels than previously.  Generally MUCH better channel choice than other hotels. Large L-shaped couch; glass-topped coffee table.  Floor-to-ceiling windows.  Servi-bar with sensors -- if you MOVE the diet coke, you BUY the diet coke.  But, there is a second refrigerator that is free and available for you to store your goodies.  Decent bottles of goo -- lotion/shampoo/conditioner.  No sewing kit.  Shower cap though.  Only 2 drinking glasses.  I did like the fact that there were ice tongs.  There was a coffee maker and a hair dryer.  View:  View was of pretty much nothing.  That Palms place, and the Gold Coast.  I had asked for a view if possible and they made a noise indicating they'd give me one.  They didn't but it was OK since my room rate was so low at $59.  Other:  My rate included a 2 pm checkout but of course at 12 noon they were ignoring my do not disturb sign, banging on the door.  I just rose and got to the door in time to see the maid thru the peephole, advancing her key.  I was not dressed.  Not sure how they get off calling this kind of room a 'suite'.  There is absolutely nothing about it that is a suite.  It is a four-walled ordinary room, although it is quite large.  The entryway has a small counter and vanity, as you walk toward the bathroom.  Perhaps this is a second 'room'?  Not in my book.   It doesn't even qualify as a hallway.  It's the floor space between the front door and the bathroom.  It's not a room just because you locate the fridge there.  I thought the staff was friendly all around, in particular the casino staff.  However I encountered frequent episodes where the right hand didn't know what the left was doing.  The girl on the phone had said one thing, and the guy at the desk had no idea.   The people in the gift shops sent me several places for stamps, ultimately to the 'mail counter' at the front desk, where I was told 'no of course we don't sell stamps here' and they sent me to the VERY far away business center.  Ridiculous.   The telephones were strange too.  I wanted to order room service.  The in-room booklet/menu did not have anything that said what extension to dial.  So I looked at the phone itself, and it had the little picture of food and the words ROOM SERVICE, but then there was no button.  Ditto for the 'front desk' button.  I ended up getting thru to those extensions only by dialing the hotel switchboard (where I was informed that that was what i was SUPPOSED to do, dial 0)  (which is weird).   Then, there was nowhere listed what calls cost.  On the phone itself, it says 'refer to in-room booklet thing', which when you look at it says 'phone calls are subject to a minimal charge.'   Uh-huh.  So I dialed 0 where they know everything, and they were like "I think it's a dollar for unlimited-length local calls".  This was dubious to me, considering NO other strip hotel I've stayed at allows for local or 800# calls to be of unlimited length. My point really with all this is that they sorta don't seem to know what's going on there.  Lots of young people who are unfamiliar with the policies and procedures at this place.  Having said that, though, I would stay here again because the  casino was lots of fun.  Skip the coffee shop.  Overpriced and not worth it.  Ditto room service.  Did not try the famous buffet. Rio Room 1789 Ipanema Tower posted 11/5/01

After my suite was ready, I moved my stuff, I was very pleased. It seemed like an mile to walk down to the end of the hall.  It was a 1200 sq foot suite with a gigantic living room with a half bath, 30"TV with wet bar, fridge, servibar, coffee-maker, and two floor to ceiling walls of windows. The bedroom was separated by double doors and was also quite large with a recliner, another 30" TV, and a good-sized Jacuzzi tub next to the wall of windows. The walk-in closet was next to a vanity which was next to the separate shower and commode room. Now I know what they have been talking about when they refer to that little window in the shower---weird. The suite must have been fairly recently redecorated because the carpets and the furnishings seem new. Index

Day: Thursday Friday Saturday
Rate: Comped
Recommend:       Yes
Agency: Directly through the hotel.  Received mailer offer

Amenities: Iron, ironing Board, mini bar, small fridge for personal use, hairdryer, makeup mirror, 2 phones, large sectional couch, 25' TV, in room safe. View: Only on 8th floor so view was not really expanse.  View of south strip to mid strip. Other: Stayed in the newer Masquerade Tower.  Room was clean as always.  However a few things were out of place.  No shampoo, just conditioner, shower head was broken so it just trickled (however they repaired ASAP when I informed front desk).  My 6th time in the last year at this hotel and have always been pleased with both room and service. Rio Room 307 Ipanema Tower. posted 12/21/01

Room was very nice. Not real plush, but big and clean. A big plus was that scratchy soap that they pour oatmeal into when they make it. Mr. and Mrs. Filthy over at elcheapo.com need to update their review because the sewing kit they highlight wasn't to be found. Not that we really had any mending to do, but we were looking for it. Also, the much discussed  coffee makers were gone, so we had to drop 4 bucks every morning at the little cart by the elevators. Yeah, they can blame the health department, but it's all a scam to make you seek caffeine at that little cart! The view faced Caesars, but because we were lower, we got a discounted rate of 59 dollars for Wednesday and Thursday and an 89 dollar rate for Friday. Most people would probably prefer to be higher, but we didn't mind. In fact the back of her horse is about all the higher my wife usually cares to be anyway. We found the rate through the LVCVA website and were happy we spent 40 extra bucks to be over there instead of our original reservation at Terribles. Index

Agency: Through Rio Total Rewards Players' Club
Amenities: Two queen-size beds, mini-bar (fee), refrigerator, safe (in closet), large L-shaped sofa, color TV (on swivel, able to watch from sofa or bed), hair dryer.
View: Excellent view to the south and east. Entire Strip is visible from Flamingo Rd. south to Mandalay Bay (very impressive at night). Also can see parts of Barbary Coast, Flamingo and Caesars Palace. View of Ballys-Paris-Aladdin is blocked by Bellagio. (Also, look for the squatters who hang out underneath the railroad overpass on Hotel Rio Drive!)  Other: In fall-winter months, the morning sun will rise directly over Bellagio. Keep drapes closed if you don't want to be awakened at dawn. Passing trains can be heard on the tracks below which run parallel to Industrial Road. After midnight, the hotel dims the large neon sign near the southeast corner of the Masquerade Tower, presumably so it won't shine in guestroom windows all night. Index

Rio Room: 31016 Masquerade Tower: posted 5/17/04

Non-smoking, King sized bed. View was to the south catching MB, Luxor,
and Excalibur. Regular Rio "suite," which is an oversized room with a
large L-shaped sofa, king-sized bed, servibar with a 27" TV in the
center of the floor to ceiling windows. Hall off the entry to the
right with one wall of closets and luggage rack. Safe and ironing
board in closet. Opposite the closet was a sink, vanity, refrigerator,
and coffee maker (yes, David, they did put coffee makers back in SOME
of the rooms, not my buddy's though). End of hall led to shower/tub
and toilet room with additional sink. No coffee fixings the first
morning, so had to ask for them. Friday evening I came in late and
found that the maid had taken every single soap bar out of the room,
so had to call down to have them bring some up. Never any plastic
laundry bag which we always use for dirty clothes to pack. Carpet
looked a little worn, though the desk clerk told me it the room had
been recently refurbished (?). Key entry, not card. Great water
pressure. Very quiet room. Index

Rio Room: 1600 Masquerade Tower: posted 9/20/05

The last days were in Vegas. We stayed at The Rio. Used a promo we received
for a $35 room, at check in I asked about a Jacuzzi upgrade and was offered one
for an additional $100 so took it.
We had a choice of strip view or mountain view and took the mountain view
which was room number 1600 in the Masquerade tower. It was an enormous room,
1600 sq ft taking up the end of the tower giving a 180 degree view, and had a
view from the New York to the west or is it south? From Caesar's to the east or
north. so there was very little of the strip we couldn't see.
There was an entry hall opening to a living room with a couch and comfortable
chairs, to the left behind a partition was a dinning room, glass table with 6
chairs. To the right through a door was the bedroom, king size bed. Behind the
bed was a hallway entered from either side of the bed where the restroom,
shower, double sink and mirrors, closet and tub were located. Was disappointed
in the Jacuzzi though, just an oversized bath tub with whirlpool jets, nothing
like the full size Jacuzzi's at the MGM that could hold 4 adults. Index
