Orleans
Room 1916
The
elevator is pretty close to the casino, just down the hall from
the poker room, past the gift shop. There is a security guard there
checking keys 24 hours a day. I got up to the 19th floor and found
that the rooms start at room number 1942 by the elevator and the room
numbers go down from there. They were originally going to put me at
the end of the hall, but room 1916 is far enough! If you don't feel
like the long hike down the hall, be sure to ask for a room in the
40's or high 30's. The even numbered rooms look out towards the
strip.
Opening the door to my room I saw a dresser directly in front of me
and beyond that a desk with an outlet and good lighting. There was a
TV on the dresser that was pretty good size for Las Vegas. I'm not
the TV expert in the family, but it appeared to me to be about
24-25".
To the right were two queen beds with brass headboards. Between the
beds is a table with the phone, a lamp and alarm clock/radio. Beyond
the beds is a sitting area with a couch, table and comfortable reading
chair (If only I could fit that chair into my suitcase, it would be
perfect for the nook in our bedroom.) The sitting area has a good
sized window and mine happened to have a view of the strip from
Mandalay Bay to NYNY (straight out the window) and if you lean up gainst the glass, you can see as far north as Stratosphere. From
the
couch, the view is from Mandalay Bay to Caesars'. Nice view.
Opposite that sitting area is the bathroom. There is a dressing area
with sink and clothes hangars, etc. Separate from that is the toilet
and shower/tub combo. The tub has a railing on one side where you can
rest a drink, etc. and is contoured for soaking. The room comes with
bath gel along with shampoo, mouthwash and lotion. On the back wall of
the shower (opposite the showerhead) there is a window about 12" wide
and 15-16" high that opens up and offers a view of the valley and the
Strip. There is also a telephone in the bathroom area. (Photos of
the
room at Orleans and the view are at

This was a great room with a terrific panoramic view of the strip, all the
way from Treasure Island to Mandalay Bay.
The hallways were VERY long, and I would recommend asking for a high
floor, even numbered room, up to say, number 30. The Strip view
numbering starts at XX42 and those are closest to the elevators, and ice
machines. But, if you had to take a room further down, it would be
worth it to get a Strip view. That was the best view of the Strip I
have seen, and in the morning, with the sun coming up over Sunrise
Mountain, it was phenomenal.
One thing I didn't like was at night, the lights from the building shine
into the windows, so we had to close the drapes to get darkness in the
room.
This was a smoking room with two queens, with brass headboards. It had a
nightstand with an alarm clock, and a phone, a 6-drawer dresser with a
27" TV, and a writing desk, which could be used as a makeup table as
there are lamps on both sides of the mirror. On one wall, there was
a full length mirror.
One nice feature was a small sitting area in front of the picture window.
It had a couch, a coffee table, an easy chair and a floor lamp. We enjoyed
sitting and having a drink and looking out at the Strip.
There was a dressing area with a large closet, an ironing board and iron,
and 2 extra pillows.
On the counter were an icebucket, 4 glass glasses, soap, shampoo,
conditioner, mouthwash, and bath gel. There was a 1500w hairdryer
mounted on the wall.
The bathroom was separate, and had a toilet and a standard tub, good water
pressure, and everything was very clean.
We paid $42.00 total for Sunday night in August. I got this
deal from Phil Feldman's LA Times Deals,
which are posted weekly.
They have a shuttle that runs back and forth to the Barbary Coast, so even
if you don't have a car, you are not totally isolated.
They have a movie theater, a bowling alley, a large pool area with 2 pools
(although the 2 pools were small), with lots of chairs, and cabanas.
They have several restaurants, ice cream shops, burger places, and a
pretty good buffet for a reasonable price.
This is a good value, and I would recommend it.

Room 912. Posted 12/1/01
We stayed here since my Dad had a previous
good experience at this hotel. Chad and I shared room 912 which had a good
view of the strip in the distance (especially at nighttime). We could see
from Mandalay Bay straight down to the Strat. You could also see the LV
Hilton from this room as well. The room was clean and larger than the
rooms at The Mirage, Treasure Island or Harrah's (where I stayed on
previous visits). We had a double queen room with a large desk, a separate
couch & lounge chair with a coffee table. The bathroom was quite small
but more than adequate for the two of us. The only thing that would have
been nice was a double sink, but you get what you pay for. I had booked
this room back in August and had no problem getting a Saturday arrival.
The first night was $89 and then next two nights were $39 - quite a
bargain. We had a great time here and took advantage of the facilities. I
would definitely stay here again. The only negative was not being on the
strip but we took advantage of the shuttle bus to the Barbary Coast to get
us to the strip. We also used the shuttle bus to get us over to the Gold
Coast where we had a short walk across to The Palms.

Room 1359. Posted 1/17/03
We were in non-smoking room 1359. I
think it's the newer tower, no strip view though. The room was
great. Big and clean, everything seemed to be new.
Bathroom was very nice with plenty of shampoo, conditioner, bath gel,
lotion, and mouthwash. The king size bed was firm and very comfortable.

tiny tiny window in the shower that opened.
View: GREAT view... faces the strip and you can pretty much see the entire
strip. 13 floors up was plenty high to get above the spot-lights
that shine back on The Orleans allowing a great view at night! Other:
Quick quick check in and check out. Room was close to the casino... main
bank of 8 elevators which were very quick. First hotel I have ever
stayed in that DID NOT have a safety latch or chain on the room door.

Agency: I booked with the hotel directly by telephone.
Amenities: The room is very nicely sized. I had a king sized bed and
there was room for a rectangular, six drawer dresser, a desk, two
nightstands, a couch, chair and coffee table. There was enough left
over room that I could have hosted a small cocktail party in the room
without being too crowded. The television was nice sized. It
did not allow me to access the interactive features such as internet
connection but I was abele to deal with that disappointment. Be
aware, when the television is first turned on, the volume is at near ear
drum breaking levels. OK, that is a slight exaggeration ut it is
loud. The bathroom is divided into two separate areas. The
initial area has a sink and clothes hanging area. Also available is
an ironing board and iron. There was ample room for clothing storage
without feeling cramped. The bathing/toilet area was roomy enough
and the telephone mounted to the wall next to the commode was a nice
touch. There is a small window in the shower that does open.
This was nice as I was able to keep the bathroom from steaming up during
my extended, hot showers. The little bottles of goodies were
plentiful. The shampoo and conditioner smelled nice, the lotion made
my skin soft and the mouthwash could have been a bit stronger but it did
the trick. Be warned, trying to remove the protective seal from the
mouthwash was a bear! The soap for the shower was made with oatmeal
and the hand soap was made with milk and honey. Both smelled nice
and did the trick. At least no one complained of excessive body
odor...to my face.
The bed was mostly comfortable. We are not talking thick mattresses
here friends. The pillows on the other hand were nice and fluffy.
They smelled nice too which is a nice touch. The temperature control
was a bit iffy. Sometimes it felt as if warm air were blowing from
the air conditioner and other times I could see my breath if I got close
enough to the vents! I never adjusted the thermostat so I don't know
what the difference was caused by. I did not spend extended times in
the room so I was able to live with the fluctuation. I should note
that the temperature in Las Vegas during my stay was a pleasant mid to
upper 80s during the day. Over all the room was clean and quiet when I had
the bathroom window shut. I was able to make the room dark when it
was time to sleep and there was plenty of light during the day when I
wanted it.
View: The even numbered rooms up to about 40ish face the strip. This
was my first time staying at a non-strip hotel so I found myself looking
longingly toward the strip from my window. At least being able to
see helped. I was on the third floor, directly above the receiving
area for the hotel. I saw semi truck arriving and departing
throughout the day. I saw hotel employees stepping out for a smoke.
At least the area was clean. There was no noise to complain about,
even when my bathroom window was open the trucks did not disturb my
activities. I was not bothered by hotel spotlights either. The
view is OK if your thing is to stand and gaze out of your hotel room
window when you should be out soaking up all the fun possible in Las
Vegas.
Other: I was impressed with the Orleans over all. The casino is nice
sized and laid out well. The cocktail waitresses are the most
beautiful, have the nicest bodies and the best, most revealing outfits in
town. In my own humble opinion, after an unscientific review.
Their service is great. The drink prices directly from the bar are
reasonable. The buffet was unspectacular but good and decently
priced. The cafe had good food and the price there was reasonable.
The slot club people were nice and the club offers a couple of free
buffets with little game play required. Overall the staff was good
and friendly.
My only real complaint(s) involve the gambling. Let me just say
first off, this was not my most lucky of trips. That's my fault, not
the Orleans'. There is a generous selection of slot machines as well
as video poker. They are predominantly quarter machines and they are
scattered throughout the casino. Table games include craps, roulet,
blackjack, pai gow, three card poker (I think) and baccarat. That is
it. No let it ride or caribbean stud. I was never able to get
an explanation. This bothered me more because I play predominantly
craps, video poker and let it ride. When the others weren't going
well for me I had no other favorite to turn to. I did notice the
other Coast casinos did not have let it ride either. Hmmm.
Also this casino is very smoky. It was nice to have the shuttle
which took us to Barbary Coast and/or Gold Coast but it was still a
challenge to get to strip casinos. Overall the stay was a very good
one. I stayed here because I attended a seminar. I do not know
if I would choose to stay there again due to it's isolation from the other
casinos. The room rate I got is comparable to some nice strip
casino/hotels and for me the gambling was no better. Ultimately
there never really is a bad trip when you go to Vegas. Happy
travelling all. Index

821 posted 9/6/04 The
room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I was in room 821 located
half way down the longest corridor. My room faced the pool, dead center.
The exterior architectural elements restricted the sight lines (Just as
well. Every time I took a gander outside, I saw overweight middle aged
men conked out on the loungers.) From what I saw, the pool area looks to
be a step or two above the typical pool facilities at the other resorts.
I didnšt spend any time at the pool, so my perspective is limited to
what I saw from inside my room. The temperature was controlled by a wall
mounted thermostat. I only had to adjust the room temperature once, and
doing so was not difficult.
The room was tastefully decorated using a color scheme similar to
Treasure Island, and likely many other hotels: a pleasant mix of various
shades of browns, yellows, browns. The carpet was green and white. The
room had two Queen sized beds. The mattresses were firm. A large dresser
lined the wall opposite the beds. Atop the dresser was a 24-inch Philips
TV with a wireless web TV keyboard. The night table held a phone and
clock radio. A desk and chair lined the exterior bathroom wall adjacent
to the dresser. On the other side of the room opposite the washroom was
a couch, chair and oval shaped coffee table. The bathroom was located on
the exterior wall (most hotels Išve staid at feature the washroom just
as you enter the room.) with a small window set shoulder height you
could open while showering in the morning to let out the steam. The
washroom was spacious and included an open faced closet. An ironing
board, and iron were stored out of the way in this space. A hair dryer
was mounted on the wall next to the sink. Bottles of shampoo,
conditioner, hand lotion, mouthwash, bubble bath and two types of bar
soap were provided, as well as two drink glasses and an ice bucket.
There was no in-room safe. There is a in-bathroom phone located
conveniently next to the toilet.
This was a basic room that I was able to reserve for $49 a night via
their web-site. I was impressed with the room and will gladly recommend
people stay at the Orleans. Index

Very nice, clean, large room with desk and a sitting area with couch
and chair.
Mountain view.
Bathroom has a large sliding door with no door between tub-toilet area
and vanity-closet area. I was told that doors had been removed in all
rooms.
This was inconvenient for us, as there was a lot of door sliding, lack
of privacy, and a lot of steam and whatnot making their way through the
room. There are a lot of little toiletries offered, mouthwash
included.
Long walk to elevators. Short walk to casino, spa, pool and parking
garage.

Self parking was easy there, we never had
to use the
valet. There was no line at the check in counter (!) I tried the $20 tip
thing, and I'm not sure it got me anything (there was no upgrading to a
suite or type of room), but she did give me a strip view room pretty close
to the elevator and she said that that usually cost extra (?). It was
convenient being that close to the elevator (but not so close as you heard
everyone who got off). Being on the 13th floor seemed lucky at the time.
There was no line to sign up for the club coast card either. Everyone at
the
hotel was really nice, and I was called sweetheart, dear etc. more than a
few times, even though I was always with Jim who has a very large beard
and
the tendency to scowl.
After the first night, I realized I needed a flatter pillow since I sleep
on
my back. Housekeeping was in the hall so I asked if they had one. They
said
to call down and ask for one. I let it go and forgot to call that day.
When
we got in that night, there was a nice flat pillow on the bed. Pretty
nice.
The room was very large, with a king bed
(comfy!), desk and a section
with a loveseat , large chair and coffee table. There was a full length
mirror. The bathroom was pretty big with the "closet" and ironing board at
one end. The shower pressure was good, but it was one of those round
sprays
with an empty spot in the middle- fine for head, not great for face.
Nowhere
near the worst I've had though. The room and bathroom were very clean .
The
rooms were very, very quiet. Didn't hear anyone or anything once in the
room, and when you close the door, it sounds like it's slamming , but we
didn't hear anyone else's doors closing, so there's that.
There was a coffee pot in the room. Your first pot was free then 1.75 per
cup each following day. What the hell is that? Even cheap motels give you
free coffee either in the room or the lobby. To us it was a head shaker.
There is a business center there, where for $5 you can use a
computer/printer for a half hour. We used it twice, once to check our
emails
and once to check emails and print out our boarding passes. Very nice that
that is available.
All in all we liked the Orleans a lot. We were happy to be off the strip,
and it was a nice manageable size for us. Index
