MGM Grand Room 27242

At $650 per night I could never afford this room, but after playing blackjack for 19 hours straight at an average of $135 dollars a hand the hotel comp this room and strangely I was also winning big. The Strip-side of the Grand Tower is staggered like stairs which offers large areas for patios, 786 square feet to be exact.  These patios come complete with a six person spa over looking the Vegas sky-line.  If this is not enough, the room is an elaborate 1,300-square-foot suite with a two-story vaulted ceiling, and a large separate living and dining room area that includes a big screen television and fully stocked wet bar.  This suite also has a junior bathroom downstairs and the master bedroom on the second level features an extensive bathroom that includes a private make-up vanity with his-and-her sinks, an oversized spa tub, a separate shower, and a built-in linen closet complete with his-and-her MGM monogrammed robes and slippers. The electric opening drapes and cellular phone are a nice touch and the oversized bedroom includes a big screen TV and a large window for viewing the city.  The view of the strip and surrounding mountains is spectacular. The only negative is lack of privacy on the patio.  I felt like I was being watched from the patio above and the, I don't know how many 1000, rooms in the hotel, but this is a small price to pay for a fully comp'd suite of this magnitude. MGM Grand Room 13522

The room was adequate.  Nothing special about it.  It had a 19" TV in an entertainment center/ dresser.  2 Queen beds, a side table and a couple large chairs One nightstand 3 lamps total.  The room was very dark, not enough light at all.  Closet did not have enough hangers, No luggage rack.  Ironing board, iron, hairdryer.  No safe. Conditioning shampoo, body lotion, a small bar of soap, and the ever coveted mending kit, which by the way, was the only part of the toiletries that I actually used. View: The view wasn't bad.  We had a sort of window seat looking over/into the pool deck of The Mansion.  A very nice glass roofed, overly posh EMPTY pool.  But I'm sure the high rollers loved just knowing it was there. We could also see the north half of NYNY, Monte Carlo, Bellagio and the Stratosphere.
The thermostat was difficult to adjust to the right temperature. And it was very noisy.  Oddly enough, turning the knob to off made the fan LOUDER.  The beds were nice, sheets were soft and thick.  Blankets were heavy like I like them. And there were more than enough fluffy new pillows. Someone should tell MGM about fabric softener though.  There towels were awful!  They were hard and scratchy.  We were fortunate to have brought towels from home, for our day at Wet N' Wild.  Overall, I was not impressed.  The hallways are 1/4 mile long or more.  You are far from everything.  The carpet was faded, the elevators small. The folks at the other end of the hall in the Grand Tower seemed to have better carpet and nice elevators.  Soda machines etc.  I won't stay in the Emerald Tower again, or MGM for that matter.  JMHO Index

Note: The following five reports were sent to us by a reporter who stayed in 5 different rooms on his MGM stay!

From these descriptions you can see that the odd numbered rooms faced the strip and even rooms faced more to the airport.   BTW, the first couple of digits of the room numbers was also your floor number.  I would suggest the 10th floor or higher to get a decent view.  Both 23339 and 24139 had great views, however, you paid for it in walking.  Both rooms were near the end of their respective wings. MGM Grand Room 6139
This room is a non smoking spa suite.  It looked exactly like the picture on the MGM site.  There was a large safe tucked behind a mirrored closet.  The suite is really like a large room separated into two by a bureau.  The bureau housed the TV, which swiveled to either side (bedroom or living room), and storage cabinets and drawers big enough to house all the stuff my wife and I packed.  There were two single line phones.  (Bummer for someone who connects to the internet and still wants to receive calls)  The bedroom housed a king size bed with tasteful night stands on either side.  The living area, had a comfortable couch three chairs and a table.  The bathroom (not visible from the MGM site) was huge.  It had a spa tub big enough for two, sinks, and a shower stall enclosed in a see-through plastic.  The room was great, however we are smokers, so we had to switch rooms the following day.  The view from the room from two large windows was bad.  75% of the view was a wall. You could, however, see the top half of the Monte Carlo and part of New York New York. Index

MGM Grand Room 24139
This was the room we had for the rest of trip.  It was a smoking spa suite just like the one above.  The view from this room, however, was great. Straight ahead was New York New York and Monte Carlo.  To the left you could see the Rio, Bellagio, Caesar's Palace.  To the left, excaliber and the staggered wing of the MGM, surrounding mountains were in the background no matter which way you looked Index

MGM Grand Room 24114
Regular Grand Tower room (smoking).  View was great.  To the right the end of an airport runway, to the left y\you could see the back side of the strip down to the Stratosphere.  Below was part of the MGM pools.  You could also see a great view of the mountains from this room.  This view was the most diverse view, a little of everything (airport, strip, mountains, etc). Index

MGM Grand Room 23339
Regular Grand Tower room (non-smoking).  This room had what I considered the best view of all the rooms we booked.  Directly centered in your window was New York New York,  the roller coaster, statue of liberty etc  To the left you could see the Excaliber, Luxur, and Mandalay Bay.  To the right was the Monte Carlo and the staggered wing of the MGM. Index

MGM Grand Room 6117
Regular Grand Tower room (smoking).  Bad view here of a wall and parking garage Index

MGM Grand Room 6208
Regular Grand Tower room (smoking).  Bad view here also, however, you could see part of the airport. Index

MGM Grand Room 17104 posted 10/19/01

We got to our room which was 17-104 a mini suite and had a view looking east toward Stallion Mountain and the Hard Rock.  The room was gorgeous, the bathroom had both a tub and a stand up shower with dual sinks.  The room also had 2 TV's... all in all a VERY nice room. Index

MGM Grand Room:19304
Day:          Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
Rate:  $169
Recommend:  Yes
Agency: Booked directly with hotel via telephone.
Amenities: This is a "bungalow suite" which means it's basically a standard room but a little bit bigger.  It had a tiny little sitting area with its own TV and a little cheap couch (that was stained and nasty). The bathroom was huge and nice although there was a LOT of hair in the tub.   Separate shower stall.  The tub, though, also has a shower.  Free junk in the bathroom included shampoo/conditioner, lotion, shower cap, and sewing kit.  Two different types of soap. This room is non-smoking and has 2 Q beds.  It's close to the elevator -- I think it is 2nd room from elevator hub.  Therefore, lots of foot traffic.
View: The view was west-facing.  Looking out the window to the right, you could see just the West Wing of the MGM.  Looking out straight ahead, you see NYNY.  Off to the left are Excalibur and Luxor and MB as well as Tropicana.  Also if you look down, you have a view of the rooftop of the MGM casino.
Other: We were comped one night in this room because when we stayed at MGM last time, the chambermaid left the door ajar all afternoon.  If we didn't have one night free in this room, I would not have stayed here for $170/night.  It's not a special enough room to justify the extra money.  The standard grand tower rooms at MGM are  just as nice, but a little smaller.  And they're significantly less expensive.

So even though I am gonna check YES below, that I would recommend this room, that's because it was passable for what it was.  I don't NOT recommend it.  I personally don't think it's necessarily worth the extra money, is all. Index

View: this was the best part of the room. to the left was excalibur. in the center was ny ny, the orleans in the distance and monte carlo. you could see the palms and rio in the distance. to the extreme right was bellagio (no fountain view)caesers tower and mirage. down below you could see mgm mansion and a small courtyard.
Other: the room was as nice as other rooms i've stayed in. the bathrrom wasn't as nice as luxor or caesers palace tower with whirlpool bath. the view made up for that. I've also stayed at mirage and flamingo. There was a safe in the room. Index

MGM Grand Room:27-336 posted 6/16/03

We headed over to the MGM to see what kind of view we were going to have. We took the elevator up to the room, opened the door and walked over to open the curtains. What a surprise to see all the way from the Mandalay Bay to the Monte Carlo with New York New York right in front of us. We could see the RIO and Orleans in the distance. The room was in very good shape (27-336), had two queen beds and was just what we had hoped for. Index

MGM Grand Room:21320 Grand Tower posted 12/21/05

I checked in at the MGM and scored a Strip view room (21320) at the
Grand Tower overlooking Mandalay to Monte Carlo. The room was
perfectly ok, but nothing to get excited about. A bit larger than
usual, it featured a few old movie star pictures, a comfy king size, a
couch and a desk. The bathroom was a bit boring, it had a tub / shower
combination. I liked the one at Tuscany better. The cool thing about
the room offer was that it included a $35 dining credit, a $25 spa
credit and  a $35 credit for any shop or restaurant at Desert Passage,
all for $79. I toured the property for a bit and didn't recognize the
Strip entrance area, with the new bar and poker room. I also entered
the pool area for the first time, some people were even swimming. Itīs
a pretty good pool area which could be great with a bit more tropical
theming a la Mirage. I liked it better than Caesars or Bellagioīs. Index
