Las Vegas Hotel Descriptions  Golden Nugget

Golden Nugget
Room 1697 South Tower
I stayed at the Golden Nugget in room 1697 South Tower.  Quite a hike to the casino and pool.  The view was facing West towards mountains. It was fairly quiet.  Safe, Hair Dryer, nice fabrics, and wall paper.  Also, a lighted makeup mirror which I had no use for.  Index

Golden Nugget Room 1778 South Tower

Very long walk to the casino. Elevator service is fast and frequent however. Room is just off the elevator near an ice machine. Standard GN room which means average sized, but nicely appointed with 25 inch TV, all of the trimmings in the bathroom. The view faces the back of Main Street Station and the front of the Plaza Hotel,  and the infamous Nevada, not bad. Speaking of the bathroom. Nice tile work in the shower, decent size, but toilet lacks power so flush early and often.  Index

Golden Nugget Room 421/423 North Tower

We stayed in the Nugget's north tower, rooms 421 and 423, adjoining rooms. Room 423 is a wheelchair accessible room, but aside from a wider door on the bathroom and grab bars near the toilet and in the tub/shower the rooms were identical. Both were smoking rooms, but as non-smokers we didn't notice any stale smoke aroma. Each room featured two queen beds, two telephones, 25" television, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. No in-room safe. Because the windows are about 3 feet above the floor -- with the air-conditioning unit underneath -- if you're in a wheelchair you won't be looking out the window much. The view from these two east facing rooms was of the swimming pool area. The rooms aren't big, but they're tastefully decorated and, in this case, just a few steps from the elevators.  Index

Golden Nugget Room 935  North Tower.

Absolutely no view except the roof of the casino and a big aluminum structure about 75 yards away (The Freemont Street Experience, or rather the outside of it, which lit up our room through a little bitty crack in the drapes at 5:30AM one morning----I had no idea they put the show on until that hour). The room is pretty nice. Clean, spacious enough, getting just a bit frayed. The bathroom is mostly marble, smallest, with poor water pressure.  Index

Golden Nugget Room 21018  posted 2/20/02

No line at all checking in at the Golden Nugget.  Pleasant surprise in the form of a $50 food/beferage credit.  Again, they gave us the debit card semi-hassle.  We were in room 21018.  Sort of a view of Fremont Street, the nicest part of it was being able to see the thermometer on top of Binion's, though I'm sure Becky'll turn that off soon.  Again, two queen beds, table, chairs, make-up table.  Bathroom was about the same as the Flamingo, nicer decorated though.  I think they just got a new batch of towels.  Separate shampoo and conditioner, two kinds of soap, shower cap and some lotion. Golden Nugget Room 16103  posted 4/6/02  Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
Rate: Package Deal with air $555 for 7 nights from PHL
Recommend: Yes
Agency: Booked through AAA travel agent at America West Vacations. Amenities: Nice room with safe, lighted makeup mirror, hair dryer, had to call for mouthwash. Two double beds. Non-smoking. No iron, no fridge.  Air conditioner was loud. View: Gorgeous view of the strip at night.  Get the highest floor you can. Other: Long walk to the casino.  Walk to parking garage was short.  Ice machine and sodas right next to the room.

Golden Nugget Room 1605  posted 4/29/02

Check-in at the GN goes very smoothly and $20 gets us into the north tower, and a nicer room (1605).  The room is large, 21" TV, King Size bed, and non-smoking.  The bathroom is equally upscale, but pretty small.  If I was going to design the room, I'd sacrifice another 20sqft of room, and make that bathroom bigger. One interesting thing in the room is the magnified makeup-mirror, a nice touch, but all it does is scare me with a close-up of my pores. The general colour scheme for the GN is a 'sea of cream'.  Not really my taste for decor, but definitely upscale. Index

Golden Nugget Room 14115  posted 6/10/02

Day:  Sunday Monday Tuesday Saturday
Rate:            $55
Agency: Called 800 reservations Used GN gaming card and specials found on Internet Included 2 free breakfasts and 2 free dinners.
Amenities: Hair Dryer, Makeup Mirror, TV, Closet, Beds, table and chairs.
View: Best view of Cook County Courthouse you could ask for, plus we could see some the taller buildings down The Strip.
Other: I bring a foldable igloo cooler to keep brew icy-cold, thus avoiding the fridge rental charge. We usually pick up a big bottle of red and a 750ml of white wine at Walgreens or RiteAid after leaving the airport. The wife plays in the casinos until the wee hours and sleeps-in until 2 or 3pm but we still get our room serviced, and leave a nice tip for their extra efforts. It's about as far away from the main casino and pool as you can get, but hey, we always stay in the South Tower so we don't know any better. Great place, we love downtown! I like the FSE and refurbished Neon Signs, and the 99¢ Margaritas, 99¢ Shrimp, 99¢ Beers and the free entertainment! Index

Golden Nugget Room 981 South Tower  posted 8/5/02

Stayed at the Golden Nugget. (room 981, Cyberhog) Nice sized room, in room safe that was locked when we got there and we didn't get around to getting unlocked. Large bathroom, marble everywhere, hairdryer. Comfortable beds. It was in the south tower, which is about a 2 block walk from the casino. That got old after a few days, although it does take you by the pool area each time. View from the room was lousy - top of a parking ramp. Index

Golden Nugget Room 2183, South Tower posted 10/24/02

You have to show your room key to use the elevators going to the room.  Security was always on duty at the lobby-level elevators. The 21'st floor is non-smoking, and there was no smell of smoke in the room. The room was large.  Predominate colors were gold, beige, and dark green.  There was a small vanity area with a magnifying makeup mirror.   The king size bed was very comfortable.   The closet had plenty of hangers, a safe, an iron, and an ironing board.   The bathroom was roomy with lots of towels.  Water pressure was adequate but not great.  There was no coffee maker. The room overlooked the GN's parking garage and the Plaza hotel. There was a view of the mountains.  On a lower floor, the position of this room wouldn't have been as nice.   Heavy drapes effectively blocked out the light.  The room was very quiet.  Index

Golden Nugget Room 1205, North Tower posted 11/5/02

This place continues to be the absolute, no contest,  best place to stay downtown.  I got a special Expedia rate (booked through Travelaxe) of $22 per night ($26 with taxes.)  Just by smiling and being nice, I got a North Tower room with a nice view (room 1205.) They did not charge me for this upgrade.  The North Tower is preferred because of its better location... the elevators come down right next to the casino and it is a short walk to Freemont Street.  The room was standard GN, which is to say it was outstanding.  Marble entryway, vanity desk with mirror, closet with safe, partial canopy bed, sitting area.  My only complaints are the window air conditioners can be noisy at times, and the bathrooms are small, but very well appointed. Everything was totally spotless and smelled clean and new.  The ongoing maintenance at GN is very impressive. I saw them replacing the ironing boards in the 12th floor rooms during my stay.  Index

Golden Nugget Rooms 1183 and 18109 South Tower posted 1/23/03

Room 1183 was available when I arrived at 11am. When I got into the room, I found it spacious, but there was a deep rumble that caused the entire room to vibrate and made me dizzy  . I immediately went back to the front desk They said the rumble was the fans from the parking garage across the street and they gave me room 18109 in the South Tower. That room had a gorgeous room of the strip, no rumble or vibration. But it was somewhat smaller than room 1183. So, for those who say that the rooms in the South Tower are all identical, take note. Those with four digits are large and likely comparable to North Tower room size, but those with five digits are smaller. Nevertheless, it was a nice room. But... there were limited amenities in the bathroom. Only shampoo, shower cap, oatmeal soap, and hand lotion. No shoehorn, no mouthwash, no sewing kit. It's clear that MGM is cutting back.  Also, the light switch for the bathroom is on the INSIDE on the bathroom. I walked from the bed at night to the bathroom and had a difficult time finding the light switch. When I left, I nearly fell over the stool under the "desk".  Why they didn't have a light switch for the bathroom OUTSIDE the bathroom and lighted with a nightlight I'll never know. Index

Golden Nugget Room 426 North Tower posted 6/16/03

Fri-Mon were at the Golden Nugget on a deal through Private
Arrangement of $69/69/49 plus $25 food credit.  What can I say, the GN is simply the best hotel bargain in town.  The rooms are beautiful, the ameneites are great, and I was lucky enough to snag a North Tower room (room 426) for the 4th consecutive trip.  I like the North Tower because it is much closer to Fremont Street than the South.
Our room was located behind the elevators in the suite wing.  It is smaller than a regular room and has a view of a brick wall, but also has some suite amenities like free bottled water and chocolates.  It was a smoking room, but you really couldn't tell.  Overall, I was happy with this room, and would not complain about getting a similar room again, because the North Tower is much more convenient to Fremont Street, which is very important to me.  We now have enough Private Arrangement points for a free room night next trip out.  Index

Golden Nugget Room 22119, South Tower: posted 9/22/03

Rate: $49.99 internet site special with some unused freebies on Wednesday, then $69.99 on Thursday night. They had automatically charged my card last month when the reservations were made, so the rooms were prepaid. A little curious.  Room: Standard largish Nugget room with 1990 bathroom and all the acoutrements. Nice thing is a vanity outside the BR with a large mirror for the wife to make-up while I shower. Kingsize bed, non-smoking (?---must have been recently used by smoker). Very nice view down the heart of the strip to Bellagio and beyond. In-room safe.Index

Golden Nugget Room 20103, South Tower: posted 10/27/04
The walk is really quite far so anyone that has a disability of any kind
probably should stay in the North Tower.  Just to get to the elevator is
a long walk past the lobby, pool, cafe, and then it was almost as long
from the elevator back to my room.  The rooms are nice: standard two
beds, table with a couple chairs, TV etc., with a bottle of lotion and
shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom.  I had a pretty good view down
towards the strip and the Stratosphere, (you just have to ignore the
blighted urban area in between).  The only thing that seemed rather out
of place was the horseshoe open fronted plastic toilet seat more
reminiscent of a highway rest area than a 4 star hotel.  There is a free
safe in the closet that is easy to use and you set your own combination
so you don't have to carry a key or remember some odd number.  The only
other downside was that the windows are not all that great and even on
the 20th floor I was still hearing quite a bit of street noise.  The
first morning was the worst, with the BEEP BEEP BEEP of backing trucks
starting at about 5 am.  However, I found that either the previous guest
or housekeeping had left the window slightly ajar and even though it
wasn't completely quiet the second night, it was considerably better
after I completely closed it.  In the future, no matter where I'm
staying, I'll double check the window before retiring. Index

non-smoking, king, $105 a night, casino rate on wife's slot play. Starting to look a little shabby. Pucky carpet more than a little worn. Dinky bathroom after staying at Caesars. Just the bare essentials, soap, shampoo, conditioner. The whole experience seemed to me as one where the ship had no captain, which it doesn't. Index

King, Non-Smoking, comped.

I was a little worried about noise since it was so low and only a
utility closet separated it from the elevators, but it was very quiet.
No view whatsoever. Usual GN room. Fairly spacious except for the
bathroom. Found an in-room safe---not sure if this is new, but don't
recall them from before. Tub/shower, one sink, all the usual
accoutrements. The pillows were like basketballs!! Both of us woke up
with stiff necks. We've stayed at the Nugget so many times in the past
that it is just like a second home, so next time I might have to bring
a pillow from home, for real. Kidding. Index

non smoking king room in the south tower. The room was the first room to the
right after getting off the elevator, very convenient! The room was nice if
not on the small side, I'm used to staying at Orleans where the rooms are
more spacious so my comment about it being small may be off if you compare
it to other standard rooms in Las Vegas. The bathroom was small with one of
those situations where if you were sitting on the commode and someone opened
the door your legs would be knocked in to the side of the bath tub.
Toiletries included a bar of soap, bottle of shampoo, conditioner, and hand
lotion. Towels were typical, a little on the rough side. Water pressure
though was staggering, think of the Seinfeld episode with Kramer taking the
shower at the end after installing the Commando 6000??? shower head. One
thing I thought was odd is that it looked like they were going for the
marble theme in the bathroom but they ruined it by installing a cheap
fiberglass bathtub with the weird flipping button drain plug that couldn't
keep up with the pressure of the shower, past ankle deep when done showering
was the norm. Air conditioning was the old style wall unit that was fairly
quiet and kept the room cold although during our stay one day the high was
87 a record low high for that day.
The view was of the Fitz looking out past the exhaust vents for one or
more of the restaurants and roof parking for I assume employees, you really
want to keep the opaque shade drawn at all times, the parking is only 15 to
20 feet away. It was quiet on our floor never hearing drunks or partiers
banging against the walls on the way back to their rooms also never heard a
sound from the rooms on either side of us.
Would I stay here again, if I had to stay downtown I would if I could get
the same deal we got otherwise I would stray somewhere cheaper downtown but
for now I'm going back to Orleans but may try Boulder Station in the future.

Non-Smoking
Two Queens (One of the only rooms available at the time---we usually
get the North Tower.)

Regular old GN room. Roomy with all the usual amenities including
in-room safe, ironing board. Bath has sink sink, tub/shower combo.
Nothing really new to add except that over the years even these rooms
are starting to look just a little bitty bit shabby. We called
housekeeping this time right away to ask for feather pillows, because
what they have on the bed are like boulders.
