Q: Is Special
Weapons LLC (the H&K 94 clone maker) out of business, and do I have
one in stock?
A: Well I do not have one in stock. I am not in the
gun sales business (I worked for over a decade for a gun shop, but that
was a while back). In case you wonder, there are several ranges
around here that are very good about having demo guns in stock, that is
where I obtain my test guns.
As for Special Weapons, They are now Special Weapons INC. (I'm sure some
tax lawyer can tell you the reasons for switching from being an LLC to
being incorporated. If you visit their web page at www.specialweponsllc.com,
you will be redirected to www.tactical-weapons.com
which is their temporary home for now. Look for new products too,
like a semi auto model of the H&K 21 Belt fed machine gun, and a
faithful repro of the SIG 550 series rifles. Actually most parts
are genuine SIG except what needs to be made in the USA to keep the feds
happy.
BIG NEWS!!!! The Government Model 1911-A1 .45 is back. The
LAPD recently selected the Kimber version of the venerable G.I. .45 for
use by it's SWAT teams. Most departments do not allow their
officers to use single action guns, but SWAT guys are the elite
shooters who prove there was never anything wrong with "Old
Slabsides" in the hands of a competent shooter.
On a related note, S&W's latest offering is not some plastic
hi-cap pistol, but it's the S&W 1911. That's right, now
S&W is giving us their version (almost a century later than Colt) of
the .45. At first glance it looks like the Colt (Colt mags will
work) with all the tricks a target shooter would add to it. The
main difference is it comes with all those tricks from the factory.
100 years is a long time, but it may have been worth the wait.
An Unidentified writer wants to know the
value of a Charles Daly model 800 made by in Japan.
A; Unfortunately, KBI (the
folks who took over the Charles Daly name), have no records on those
firearms. What I did find out is those shotguns are of very
good quality and produced in the same factory as many Browning and
Smith & Wesson shot guns. I looked up all Charles Daly made
in Japan guns and all I found was shot guns. here's what I
found on values:
Field Grade pump 210-310
Venture
400-600
Superior Grade
460-700
Diamond Grade 1150-1900
Standard double 300-500
They also referred me to Garfield
Gunsmithing at 973 478-0171. Unfortunately after several calls,
I kept getting the parts guy who couldn't help me. I was told to
speak to the gun smith. Well, the Rangemaster pays for his own
calls, so after 3 tries, sorry. By the way, Garfield is THE
place to get a Japanese made Daly Shotgun fixed. I hope this
helps. If I get any more info. I'll post it
Francois wants to know
where can he get a silencer for an H&K USP 45 Tactial.
(in France)
A: I don't know what the laws in France are, but here is how it
works in
America. Go to a licensed class III firearms dealer. Get the manufacturer
and the serial number of the silencer (or any other class III product),
wiith
this info, fill out all the necessary applications. The dealer
should
definitely help you with this. The completed paperwork must be
hand signed
by the sheriff of the county you live in. It's then sent along
with an
application fee ($200 last I knew) to the ATF. If/when the ATF
approves
everything, both you and the dealer will be notified its OK to pick up
your
purchase.
NOTE:!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not a lawyer and have been out of the gun sales
business for some years, so as always, DO NOT take the above as legal
advise.
When purchasing any firearm or accessory (especially restricted
items),
always consult with your local authorities as laws vary from state to
state
and even from different cities within the same state.
As far as finding Francois' silencer, my advise is to check with Knight's
armaments in Vero Beach FL. They did the original ones for the HK
Military
pistol (the Mk 23). IF they can't (or won't) sell you a suppressor
they might
be able to point you in the right direction.
P.S. as this is a firearm part, I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF IT CAN
LEGALLY
BE
EXPORTED, EVEN IF IT WAS OBTAINED LEGALLY HERE IN THE US.
Safe shooting,
Rich the Rangemaster
